When I first read this book in my early 20s it changed my life. It spurred to my transition from a very weak and physically out of balance long distance runner, to a strong and healthy athlete. The techniques Pavel uses to master the Pistol and One-arm push-up carry over into virtually any exercise, bodyweight or iron. I am writing this review now, years later because I find myself re-reading portions of it to help break a plateau in another program. I am currently working my way through "Get Strong" by the Kavaldo Brothers. I hit a plateau part of the way through, and after re-reading sections of The Naked Warrior, I was able to tap into the appropriate mental cues to break said plateau.The only flaw in this book is the same flaw that is in all of Pavel Tsatsuline's books: the Russia gimmick is a bit annoying. But the content in this book more than makes up for it. This book is worth the price, and recommended reading for anyone serious about strength training, whether they are using bodyweight, kettlebells, or barbells.

I have read this three times now and most recently, I have paid closer attention to everything since I am now out of a job and the company where I worked had a five star fitness center. However thanks to Pavel, I now have kettle bells and have gotten decent with the swing, and the Turkish Get-up is a rest of my life work in progress. I will be adding the tools to the pistol and one arm push-up to my arsenal. Near 60 and with my hips, not sure how I will progress in the pistol. But, if you purchase, read all the fine points to "grease the groove". I need to read these again myself. But with a blend of all provided by Pavel, coupled with Running and Military PT, I have the tools to train at home.

Ok so I finally decided to buy one of pavel's books. The is alot of hipe about his numerous books and also a lot of negative comments about them too. So I decided for try one out and see what I think of him.The naked warrior is an unusual book from the start the table of contents seemed to make no sense and read more like an advertisement. The general outline of the book is as follows :Intro to greese the groove (gtg)Explanation of tensionExplanation of breathingMore about gtgExercise progressions for one leg squats and one leg one arm push ups (last 20% of the book)So for the good parts of the book.The general information seems sound the tension and breathing sections are clearly explained. Both are designed to increase your strength skill eg teach you how you should lift for maximum results. These two sections were great for me though I already did most of the things due to my weight lifting in school and martial arts training. It gave me the why I should do it that a didn't really understand.The gtg system to is a great idea and I will definitely use it in future programs. Brief outline is;Pick a limited number of exercises (the book recommends two specifically)Do a workout of a single set multiple times a day.Each set should be 50% of max weight or max reps.Start slowly so two workouts a day and after a month increase to three.You should be fresh before the workout and feel stronger after the workout.You can do it as a add in to work on a weak areas or as a complete workout. For a complete workout it recommends one legged squat, one arm one leg push ups and a pull exercise eg cleans.The idea is you don't fatigue you muscle but condition them slowly. The book also recommends sets of one to five reps. If it works sounds great :-).Now the bad parts.It 210 pages but should be 50 or include more chapters. For me it reads like a booklet of ideas slapped together and sold as a book. There is 20 references to dragonsdoor.com, so much so it feels like it's just advertising the site and other books by the publisher. There is way too much playing up the Russian thing. I kinda get the feeling he has produced a number of books like this, basically splitting his knowledge across a number of lesser quality books rather than one good one.All and all its a over priced book with good ideas but bad execution. I don't think i'll ever buy one of pavel's books as while the information is great, there is too little info and you much padding for the price.

Great information, but be prepared for a very technical read at times. This is not a book full of sample routines and exercises; rather, it is a text on how to fine tune your movements and breathing to produce the greatest possible strength. Chock-full of guidelines that I've already found helpful in helping me attain my pistol (one-legged) squat and work toward my one-armed pushup. Most of the material is very accessible, but a few things are a little hard to understand (the chapter on breathing). Would recommend it to any serious strength athlete, whether weightlifter or calisthenics practitioner.
