I rarely give book reviews as I figure that everyone has their own opinion and that it might not match with mine and I am okay with that fact as long as you don't mind missing out on some great reading. This is Tony Slater's third book so far and having read the first two, it wasn't even a question on if I was going to buy his new book or even any future ones he decides to write. I am only 11% into this one and I have been laughing like a loon. I don't even need to finish it to tell you that if you want a good laugh or to keep up on his continuing saga that is Tony's life, you should stop what you are doing, including reading this review and go click on this book to buy it. It's a bargain at any price but the Kindle price is such that for what you pay, you are getting so much more back in return.Help support this writer who lives day to day and needs to go on his adventures so he can write more books and keep all of us who can't afford to travel able to live vicariously through him.I will gladly write a more knowledgeable review when I have finished, but at the rate I'm going, I don't think my thoughts are going to change much. Buy this book!, Buy It! (No, I don't get any kick backs)

A review is not a recommendation. It is simply the intersection of a reader and an author. The perspective of a particular reader in no way represents the value another reader may assign to a work. Your mileage may vary.I came across this book after receiving an email touting it as "free" from Amazon. It was, at least at the time.My general shopping philosophy is "if it's free, take it!" So I took it.At worst, I thought, the book would fill in time while waiting at the doctor's office, the dentist's office, or the auto repair shop --- venues not conducive to intellectually demanding pursuits. As I perused the book's contents, I realized that I had overpaid. "One Star" seemed a generous rating.Readers who enjoy pointless drivel centered on 3 adults (Tony turns 28 and 29 during the course of the book) --- adults who are struggling through the thickets of early adolescence, who exercise a vocabulary congenial to a junior high school boys' locker room, and who exhibit a feeble grasp of English grammar --- will probably find this book delightful. The frequent resort to verbatim dialogue, recalled after a span of years, strains the reader's credulity. Events in the book have apparently been generously embellished in a futile attempt to maintain reader interest.Storytellers as diverse as Mark Twain and Abraham Lincoln surely drew a long bow in telling their tales. But they were raconteurs par excellence. Tony Slater is not.So how did this book end up with Two Stars and not One?From a meta-perspective, I developed an interest in seeing just how 3 vapid, aimless adults would manage their lives. Lives generally free of responsibilities, lives which demonstrate little taste or ability for long-term planning, lives involving a succession of dead-end jobs, etc. Whenever a job with prospects appears, the author exhibits unusual skill in avoiding it.At various points in the text, the author refers to himself and his cohort as "5-year olds" or "8-year olds." This is a courageous characterization, as it opens the door to class-action lawsuits by defamed elementary school students everywhere. On the plus side, this woeful trio seems congenial and lacking in any mean-spiritedness. I wish them well on their voyage to nowhere.

As both a longtime lover of anything connected to Australia (I WILL go there someday!) and a fan of Tony Slater's previous book "That Bear Ate My Pants," I knew I had to give this book a read. Anything about the great Land Down Under had to be entertaining, as Australia is one of the weirdest, most diverse, and most exciting places on this planet. And Tony Slater has a knack for weaving crazy, vivid tales about his adventures trotting the globe, and this time around he would apparently be dragging a few more people along for the ride. I went in hoping it would be just as entertaining as "That Bear Ate My Pants"... and I wasn't disappointed. In fact, I daresay I enjoyed this little volume even more than his tales in Ecuador. After a series of misadventures that lands Tony in Thailand, completely broke and wondering what next to do with his life, our intrepid explorer opts to check out Australia, on the basis that he already has a sister there. Together he, his sister Gill, and his sister's friend Roo decide to embark on a road trip around Australia, and see all there is to see in the great Land Down Under. Driving around the country in a wildly-painted, one-tire-in-the-grave van affectionately dubbed Rusty, the threesome encounter suicidal kangaroos, take on odd jobs at various farms (one of which leads to Tony accidentally destroying nearly a million dollars worth of crop!), explore a city built into an opal mine, prance around a desert canyon in frilly dresses (and in Tony's case, in drag), get Tony's mother stuck in a cave tunnel, and get caught in the storm of the century at a New Zealand ski resort. If you thought Australia was one of the craziest places on Earth before, Tony makes it even crazier...Just like his previous book, "That Bear Ate My Pants," Tony tells the story of his exploits in such a way that even when misfortune strikes, such as Rusty breaking down in the middle of the desert or Tony getting washed down the famous Uluru (aka Ayers Rock), he manages to make it hilarious. And he weaves a vivid tapestry of the wild continent, one that doesn't romanticize Australia but still presents a colorful and fascinating picture, one that makes me want to visit even more. The fact that the characters in this story are equally colorful and eccentric -- made even better by the knowledge that these are real people -- doesn't exactly hurt.Word of warning -- Tony does use some salty language, though not often enough that it bothered me. Still, if profanity bothers you, use discretion when reading this.An exciting and hilarious romp Down Under, "Kamikaze Kangaroos" is another home run for Tony Slater. I can't wait to read his other books, and hope they're just as fun and well-written.
