From the Back Cover

Lost Road Courses brings the cutting-edge cars, legendary drivers, classic races, and all the thrilling action from North America's classic road courses to life. Author Martin Rudow recounts the alluring history of more than 16 tracks from around North America, including Riverside International Raceway, Bridgehampton Race Circuit, Ontario Motor Speedway, Continental Divide Raceway, and many others that were once major race venues that have closed and now have a page in history. In fact, road courses from each region of the country are revisited. The exploits of Chaparral, McLaren, Bud Moore, Lotus, Penske, and other race teams as well as racing greats Parnelli Jones, Jim Hall, A. J. Foyt, Mark Donohue, Al Unser, Jim Clark, and Richard Petty are covered. Rudow also digs beneath the surface to unearth the story behind the story. He introduces the visionaries, entrepreneurs, and businessmen who saw potential and risked capital to build these palaces of speed. He also pays homage to the unsung heros and regional racers who competed, staffed, and worked in various roles at these tracks. In the pages of this book a comprehensive, detailed, and nostalgic tour of these famous races at these major road circuits unfolds. Many archival photos illustrate the cars, drivers, racing action, and the tracks themselves in their former glory. Modern color photos depict the tracks as they currently stand. If you’re a fan of classic sports car, Can-Am, Trans-Am, Indy Car, Formula 1, and classic and unique tracks of yesteryear, this is a must-have.

Brought back so many memories of the original Can-Am & Trans-Am days. Several tracks covered I had only heard passing reference to as well as some of the "big ones"; Bridgehampton.Riverside, Ontario. Not to mention the interesting history of the old Watkins Glen course. Pictures are fantastic (though mostly B&W). A real treasure to anyone who followed road racing from the late 50's - early 70's. I can remember seeing so many of the cars and drivers of the 68 - 7 era at Elkart Lake and Blackhawk Farms. I only wish Mid-America Raceway in Wentzville, MO would have been mentioned on this book. Another lost road course (where I was a corner worker for a few seasons in the early 70s). Lots of great racing happened there also.

An excellent guide to mostly long lost American road race courses. I attended drag races at CDR in the early 1970's and ached to be able to try out the road course. My 1967 Impala convertible would not have enjoyed it. But had I been able to get in there in my dad's Datsun 510, well that would have been something!Martin Rudow was an excellent choice to pursue this topic. I am thoroughly enjoying learning about all this American road racing history. Breat photos from the past and present. A worthy read and am I glad it was written!

As a long-time auto racing fan, especially of the great Can-Am series of the late 60's and early 70's, this has been a great addition to my library on the subject. While it covers a large number of race courses that no longer exist (or at least are in use anymore), I was most interested in the tracks where the Can-Am ran, such as Bridgehampton, Las Vegas and the great Riverside course outside LA. Great info and photos make this book an important addition to anyone's library on auto racing.

Big race fan starting in 1952 when I was still in high school. I was there opening week end of Riverside International Raceway - and many week ends through the years. What a terrific time: incredible cars, constant improvement in everything - handling, engines, etc. Owned sports cars, drove some race cars - an addict, in other words. Loved the book, but sad to see the end of it all. A must book.

Good series of pictures and descriptions.I would have liked to see even more aerial photos of the tracks and the surrounding from when they were first opened.

A very well done recollection of these road courses. Could have used better editing. But that doesn't detract from the overall enjoyment for me.

I miss those old courses

what a trip down memory lane. Drove a number of these, but never got to Bridge Hampton on time. Still remember every shift point at CDR in my old F-B car.
